He is more worried about this threat than anything that is happening in the Five Great Kingdoms. After all, where was the League of Dralm when Hostigos was under siege? Meanwhile, Prince Phidestros has his own problems. Great King Lysandros is returning from the disastrous siege of Thagnor with his tail between his legs. But Lysandros is not going to be happy when he finds out what’s been going on in Harphax City while he’s been off fighting Kalvan—nor will Styphon’s House.

Verkan Vall is enjoying the challenges of being the new King of Greffa, but in his absence things on First Level have gone straight to hell. Get us back to Kalvan

Somewhere along the line Carr is letting us down from the tradition of Piper. It took me a while to think about that, but it is what I have arrived at. Carr has plotted out the entire arc, and along the way he seems to have decided that more time is needed with the characters of his and Greens own invention from when they wrote Great King's War.

Considering that book prices have come down to something reasonable, this series is extremely high priced to allow a world that Piper made, become the plaything of Carr.

This may support Carr while he is in retirement and I can see how expenses add up. It is a quality book, but the story is eBook material at a fifth the cost. And that is due to the deviation from Down Styphon! to the story that Carr wants to tell.

Piper had us suspend our disbelief when he transport Calvin Morrison to Hostigos, but then he gave us a credible story that had a man who knew historical tactics for time periods ahead of where the natives were and could use that to his advantage.

The first extension of the story saw the enemy playing catch-up, but since then we have had so many new characters that Carr wants us to be involved with, that we have lost sight of Kalvan. He is off stage far more often then he is on stage. And then we have the Paratime subplot as well.

Verkan Vall was not chief very long, so Carr could develop this as something that brings together other Piper storylines and gives them play in the story. Yet we do not have enough time with the Paratimers to make their story as full as it needs to be.

The world has a great deal going on, and with the Paratime subplot, let us add whole universes to that. But this was a story about Kalvan and the Hostigians. Let's get back to that. They have just been displaced in an endeavor that was bigger then the Voortrek. They have conquered new kingdoms. Let's work through that, and really see if they are going to reconquer their homes instead of shining the light on what the lords they left behind are up to.

I hope the next one returns to Kalvan, otherwise this series may really have been over a few books ago.

OK Read but Series has become Kalvan-lite

As a read, Gunpowder God is solid. However, it is disappointing as the Kalvan Saga is supposed to be about Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen. Unfortunately, the role of Kalvan has diminished as the series has progressed. In Gunpowder God, Kalvan is a minor character in his own series.

Mr. Carr seems to have fallen in love with his Napoleonic Mercenary Character. The Kalvan Saga should be retitled: "The Mercenary who would be Khan".

The bottom line is if you like this mercenary character then you will probably like this book; otherwise, you will be left feeling disappointed.

Great book again by J Carr

Granted Great King Kalvan was not the focus in this book but it is still a great read. It fills in the interactions of the other characters introduced in the other books. The end leaves it open for one or two books at least, to complete both timelines to satisfactory close. As I have reread the other books more than a couple of times each, I would look forward to the continuation of the timeline. Happy reading....

Wow! Must Read!

First, I must say that Blue Saffire has become one of my favorite authors. I laughed, cried and rejoined while reading this book. Wyatt Black is the man. He is so comical at times, and I love his inner thoughts. His love for his family ran deep, but his love for Nellie was unconditional! Love the way he loved her and brought her out of her cocoon and made her the vixion that she was. Boy, was the sex hot, hot, hot, loved it. It broke my heart to see her mother having to suffer and succumb to the fight against cancer, it touched my heart because it hit him to me personally. I was glad to see that Nathan Briggs and the gang was brought into the story. I like how all of her novels are inter gained. I must say I will continue to read any and everything from Blue Saffire in the future.

such proper speaking characters

I just struggled though this book...when I'm reading , the characters have to sound as real as can be, but the way they talk just gets tedious. It's ok to use contractions , especially when the leading male is as alpha as described. Him saying things like, "I am " instead of good 'ol "I'm" or "if she is " as opposed to "if she's" just slows down the reading for me. It throws me off and I can't "hear" the character "speak". Maybe it's just brain processing the first person narration.

What A Story!!

This was such a good read! I can't wait until the next installment of this series comes out! I was hooked from the very first page of this story to the very end. I loved Wyatt and Nellie their chemistry together was Hot from the very beginning. I loved his family, I loved Nellie's mom and step dad. I laughed at the funny moments was on the edge of my seat during the drama filled moments and lastly had tears in my eyes at the sad and happy moments. This was my first time reading this author's work and I must say I can't wait to read more of it. A definite must read!

Paul Giralt, CCIE(r) No. 4793, an escalation engineer at the Cisco Systems Technical Assistance Center in North Carolina, has been troubleshooting complex IP telephony networks since CallManager release 3.0. Paul has troubleshot problems for some of the largest Cisco IP Telephony deployments and trains TAC teams around the globe. Paul holds a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University of Miami.

Addis Hallmark, CCNA(r), CIPT, a senior technical marketing engineer with Cisco Systems, has been installing, configuring, and troubleshooting the Cisco IP Telephony solution since CallManager release 2.3. Addis contributes to numerous design guides, application notes, and white papers on a variety of IP telephony subjects, including CallManager, IP phones, and IP gateways.

Anne Smith is a technical writer in the CallManager Engineering group at Cisco Systems. She has written technical documentation for the Cisco IP Telephony solution since CallManager release 2.0. Anne writes internal and external documents for CallManager, IP phones, and other Cisco IP Telephony products and is a co-author of the Cisco Press books Cisco CallManager Fundamentals and Developing Cisco IP Phone Services.

Invaluable Reference

I have to say, a lot of the Cisco Press books can be frustrating. They're great if you want a really detailed background on VoIP technologies, but for day to day use and quick reference they quickly prove to be more hassle than they're worth. The idea of a "troubleshooting" guide by Cisco seemed like it would be this to the extreme, but this is actually and incredibly useful book. Especially useful are the sections on configuring traces, monitoring, and alarms. I've worked with Cisco IP Telephony products for nearly 2 years and still was not aware of many of these features. Many of the problems I've encountered are listed here, and accompanied by an ordered checklist of things to troubleshoot. Reading this book will save any engineer, administrator, technician, or manager tons of time on the job.

The only reason I can't give this book 5 stars is it is 4 years old, and only covers CallManager up to 3.3 (5.0 is the latest version). Subsequently, there's lots of "this may be supported in future CallManager versions" lines, which you must then look up on Cisco's website. Many of the problems listed in this book were fixed with CallManger 4.1, released in late 2004.

Great guide book

I took just a few acroyoga classes and I wanted to get a book that I could look at to learn more on my own and have fun doing with friends. I was pleasantly surprised out how thorough the book was, talks about other elements like thai massage and other yoga sequences you can do on your own. Nice and simple and easy to understand. I would recommend it.

Good guide, very helpful

This is an excellent book that covers a ton of great material, both solo and partner based! There's a great deal of information in here to keep you busy learning new sequences for quite awhile. My only complaint is that some steps are so briskly covered that I can't figure them out with the book alone, I must consult my teacher or hope to find a YouTube video that explains it. Also, while the pages are nice glossy full colored pages, the book is a simple binder with clear plastic cover. I wouldn't mind paying a little more to get a nice hardback copy if it was offered. There is room for improvement but overall I'm quite satisfied!

I have read numerous books about the breakup of Yugoslavia both by journalists and historians. Josip Glaurić's, "The Hour of Europe", is the most scholarly and incisive work I have read to date. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the events and politics leading up to the Balkan wars of the 90's. Dr. Glaurić's thesis and research points out the U.S. and Western Europe's desire to maintain the stability and geopolitics of the region despite the overwhelming evidence of Serbia's aggression and nationalistic intent to promote and attain a Greater Serbia to the detriment of the emerging democracies of the republics of the former Yugoslavia. The book debunks some common beliefs about the breakup of Yugoslavia and supports it's thesis with solid research and evidence. I highly recommend this important contribution to the literature.

The single most accurate analysis of the breakup of Yugoslavia that exists in writing

I am thoroughly impressed by the accuracy of this book. I have read just about every book published on the breakup of Yugoslavia and I find that they are always inconsistent with actual state documents those of NGOs.

Glaudric essentially analyzes the approach taken by the key powers during the breakup of Yugoslavia, demonstrating how their playing off of each other resulted in detrimental effects in the region. He clarifies many myths and elaborates on the events in a logical and commonsensical manner.

Strongly recommended read, to say the least.

Really enjoyed and learned from this book

I'm just starting to get more interested in world politics and history. This book kept my interest throughout, was clearly written, and taught me more than I thought I would be able to absorb by laying out complicated ideas in clear ways. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with an interest.

About the Author
Simha R. Magal, Ph.D. is Professor of Management (MIS) and Director, ERP initiative, in the Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University, Michigan.� He received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.� His primary research interests include e-business and enterprise systems.� His articles have appeared in such publications as MIS Quarterly, Journal of MIS, and Information and Management, among others.� He is Editor of AISWorld Net� aisworld.org and has served on the editorial boards of several journals.� He served as co-chair of the inaugural conference of the Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) in 2006 and as the president of MWAIS during 2008-2009.

Jeffrey Word, Ph.D., is vice president of product strategy at SAP AG. He is responsible for defining SAP's future product strategy and for fostering product innovation within SAP. Dr. Word has worked for several Global 1000 companies in the high-tech industry for nearly 20 years, specializing in business and IT strategy. At SAP, he has driven the evolution of the company's enterprise technology strategy, with a special focus on corporate process improvement initiatives and services-based IT architecture design. Dr. Word earned his Ph.D. in information systems at Manchester Business School in England.

Learn ERP by focusing on underlying processes

This book does an excellent job presenting how companies can effectively use ERP by focusing on common business processes: procurement, production, and fulfillment. The books makes a clear and succinct presentation of how functional areas of an organization interact through triggers created by various types of documents within these processes. Not only are these documents discussed, but facsimiles of document 'hard copies' are presented so that readers can see the paper equivalents of documents that are increasingly electronic only. Because of the clarity of the presentation, regardless of one's background knowledge of business processes, the material is easy to understand yet not written in a way that would seem simplistic to a knowledgeable reader.

When used as a textbook, the book has a number of very positive features. The chapters are short, so students don't get overwhelmed with content. The document illustrations mentioned previously are very well done. Key terms are highlighted and well defined in the text. Supporting stories and examples are used, but not to excess. I have found the book better than books that are much longer because of its focus on keeping things simple. Students like the book as well, which is rare for most textbooks.

For classes where students are introduced to ERP for the first time (particularly SAP ERP), I believe this is the best book on the market at this time. For professionals and others unfamiliar with ERP but wanting to get a sense of what it is, how it works, and what its benefit is to an organization, this book is well worth the read and a fraction of the cost you'd pay for other books.

Excellent ERP SAP Book

Magal and Word have written a unique book about integrated business processes that combines reading with hands-on practice. The on-line exercises from WileyPLUS complement the book and offer a way to practice the concepts presented in their book. Although the book supports SAP it is a good starting point to understanding the basic concepts of any integrated system and the possible process improvements that can be achieved.

Important Content!

I bought this book to fulfill a college course reading requirement. I found it a little difficult to read and get through. This is disappointing since the content is of extreme interest to me. I am still reading it because I want to read the entire book but I believe the issue lies in the way it's been written. The author makes some great points! I feel it could use simpler verbiage and better editing.

Very wordy. Hard to follow. Felt like he was intentionally talking over our heads. Too idealistic.

I continually felt that Sullivan was trying to make a case for expanding the scope of pedagogy at the graduate and post graduate level. Liberal arts programs at the undergraduate level are a fine thing but not when they are designed to train individuals who attend these colleges for the sole purpose of exploring a range of subjects - to think like him - it starts to feel more like subterranean indoctrination. I think this is what's killing liberal arts programs. To turn society around we need to facilitate autonomy through offering students the material and letting them think for themselves. Much of Sullivan's thesis seems to be based on the philosophy of John Dewey who was a devout christian and who believed that it was the teachers role to dispense morality and virtue. He nimbly bypasses William James, father of modern pragmatism and I had to wonder if it was because James was not the "good student" that Dewey was. James was more of a renegade; like Paraselsus.

The degree to which Christianity has been embraced by Africa south of the Sahara has been a phenomenon that has led to a closer examination of the mutual impact of the Christian faith and African culture. A very important question in this continuing debate is how African Christians can embrace a faith, which came to them via Europe and North America, in a way that is true to the Bible and at the same time be the religion of African people. For many, the African Indigenous churches epitomize this tension between faith and culture. At the center of this debate lies Jesus Christ. How are Africans in post-missionary Africa to speak of Christ in a way that is truly meaningful to the African and through the worldview that is their own?

Clarke questions the theological axis on which Christology in Africa has revolved and upon which Christological discourse has been developed. He advocates a re-examination of the language and symbolism, or orality, as a means of articulating who Jesus is for Africans in ways that are suitable to their context and worldview.

Drawing upon a large-scale questionnaire survey, other qualitative research methods, and theologians and researchers of African religions and culture, Clarke represents a grassroots perspective of the way Christ is experienced in Akan African Indigenous Churches in Ghana.
