Great tool to improve vocabulary

i purchased this product to improve my vocabulary as English is my second language. Even though I am an attorney practicing throughout different courts in the United States, ANYONE can improve their lexicon regardless of job, status, career, etc.

I have listened to the Word Master for about 3 months so far and I have the following comments:

Pros
- Excellent quality of sound
- The background music is dulcet to the ears
- The words are complex and challenging (most of them at least)
- Every so often there will be a hiatus to allow the speakers to provide some historical information on certain terms which I find interesting and intellectually stimulating
- Relatively affordable price

Cons
The background music is monotonous and will get boring after a while
I wish it came with a PDF file listing all of the words
Some definitions (I have found at least 3) provided by the speakers are not totally correct or at least not totally consistent with the ones provided in well regarded dictionaries

Be warned that it does take time and effort before you can become eloquent and can master these words. Do not expect overnight results. Depending on your consistency and effort, you are probably looking at about 12 months before you can master Word Master.

I commend you on your desire to enhance your vocabulary and wish you the very best.

This product has been great. I have been listing to it for over a year and have enhanced my vocabulary in doing so. It's great for the drive home, going on a trip, at the gym, or just listing to it at your home. My 7 year old daughter likes to listen to it as well. It's funny to hear her use some of the terms like when she is hungry she wants something salubrious to eat or when we are in the store and she is telling her 4 year old brother to stop being rapacious. On a more serious note it's been greatly used in my professional area. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to increase there verbal finesse.

Nice product to listen that Improves vocab & saves time too.

Overall great product that teaches you words, their pronunciation and usage. I expected it to inform me some more details about the word e.g. its history & origin, usage in a more elaborated way to know where it can be used and where it cannot be. It tried to do justice what it was intended for. The audio version saves you time while mutitasking. I listen to it while commuting from home to work. Overall I liked it and I am 200 words stronger in just 10 days after listening to 4 CDs(I am yet to listen to rest of the CDs.). Worth mentioning that it gives you the synonyms too thats helps understand the word better. A thumbs up from me...!!!

Can I give 2 stars to Knuth?

I apologize for giving 2 stars to D. Knuth. Who am I to give such bad rating to him?

As I said, I do not feel comfortable giving 2 stars to D. Knuth. Not at all. However, I think that this is not a book at all but a code listing. Even more, it costs 100 $!
Looking that example of CWEB[...] usage, I do not think I will ever use it.

As an experiment on automatic documentation it is worth taking a look... not to that book but to the CWEB project. However, I do not see the benefit of printing that book. I would rather prefer reading an extension in his Volume 1, Fascicle 1 (Art of Computing Programming).

Let's be fair... At least it is interesting to read Knuth code style. Millions times better better than my own :P

Nice tips, poorly written.

It's a quick little read with some helpful tips and writing style examples but I can't give it high praise because of the numerous spelling and grammar issues. My twelve year old is paying more attention to the editing issues than the writing tips I want him to glean. You know it's bad if the kids can't get past it.

Not as described. poor value for money.

24 pages (some blank) in total! Nothing on hand writing analysis beyond a few trite platitudes, e. g. sloppy handwriting indicates a sloppy person. Entire book can be summed up as (1) Get some samples of handwriting you like, and (2) practice, practice, practice. A few minutes on the internet will make better information and practice sheets available for most any style of cursive. Even if this was a 99¢ pamphlet, it would still be a rip-off.

Better to buy a inexpensive fountain pen, and down-load/print the practice sheets on good quality laser or inkjet paper (better for use with fountain pens). Much more in-depth discussion of proper pen grips, with suggestions for alternative grips is available on the internet for free.

About the Author

Gary L. Fisher is Professor in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Fisher’s career has spanned 38 years and includes work as a private practice clinician and a public school psychologist. In addition to this textbook, he is the author of Rethinking Our War on Drugs: Candid Talk about Controversial Issues (2006), the senior editor of the Encyclopedia of Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery (2009), and the author of Understanding Why Addicts are Not All Alike: Recognizing the Types and How Their Differences Affect Intervention and Treatment (2011).

Thomas Harrison is Associate Dean in the College of Education and Professor of Counseling and Educational Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno. He developed the initial drug testing program for the University of Florida Athletic Department and has been a consultant for the State of Nevada Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Dr. Harrison’s career has spanned 35 years in the field, including private counseling, sports psychology, and consulting practice. He is the author of Consultation for Contemporary Helping Professionals (2004) and several articles in professional journals.

Return to Shamballa

I read this graphic novel many, many years ago. When I was too young to actually appreciate it. Even then, I knew I had read something special, I liked it, but I didn't love it. Now, many decades later, reading it for the second time, I will use a word that is not normally associated with super heroes. Beautiful. The art and the voice of the novel are incredibly in sync. The pacing and coloring work together to set the mood for this philosophical story. I'm so glad I hunted down a copy and truly enjoyed returning to Shamballa.

Dr.Strange's Magical Mystery Tour !

Dr.Strange -Shamballa is a journey for the good doctor as well
as the reader. It starts in the Ancient One's home, high in the
Himalaya mountains. I can't tell you where it ends, because
that would spoil the irony of it all. Being a student of
mystical logic, Strange is left with a puzzle to figure out,
after the recent death of his mentor. ( The Ancient One.)
It's not a drunken walk that he goes through but a precise
bombardment of images, urges,desires and surrealistic
temptations. Origins of magic, sorcery are invoke in this
travel and Strange must acknowledge them all. In the end
he is truly... Master of the Mystic Arts.

About the Author
Linda A. Sharp, J.D., received her juris doctorate from Cleveland Marshall College of Law and practiced corporate law in Ohio for seven years before continuing her studies at Kent State University in the areas of sport management, higher education administration, and sociology. After teaching in Indiana University's sport management program, where she also held a joint appointment with the law school, she is now at the University of Northern Colorado as a professor in the UNC Sport Administration graduate program, teaching sport law and ethics.
Anita M. Moorman, J.D., is an associate professor in Sport Administration at the University of Louisville where she teaches sport law and legal aspects of sport. She has a law degree from Southern Methodist University and, prior to her academic pursuits, practiced law in Oklahoma City in the areas of commercial and corporate litigation for ten years. She also holds an MS degree in sport management from the University of Oklahoma and a BS in political science from Oklahoma State University.
Cathryn Claussen, J.D., earned her Master's degree in Sport Studies at the University of Iowa and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She has taught at Bowling Green State University and Clemson University, and is now the Director of the Sport Management Program at Washington State University.

Best book for taking the technical layers and complications of law (sport managing students are not law students) and brings them to level that sport managers can use. The only better way receive this information form Dr. Sharp herself.

Superheroes that aren't perfect, yes please! Fantastic

Loved the storyline. They say opposites attract and with this book you won't be disappointed.

I loved the fact that these characters were superheroes but they weren't perfect. Throughout the book they were learning how to overcome their insecurities and problems. There are life lessons in there that can speak to someone going through something similar in real life. For example poor self image, you may look in the mirror and see yourself as a hideous being, but someone else can look at you and see you as beautiful.

I would recommend this book to all my friends. It's great read. The story flows well and there was never a dull moment. You will keep turning pages and before you know it you are finished.

A story with a good soul and lots of energy, just like Bean!

To Stand in the Light is a fantastic, energetic, fun read which I can enthusiastically recommend to a diverse audience. The fast pace can feel a little rushed at first, because this book gets a lot done in a short time, but by the end, it feels good and right that it accomplishes its goals with so little delay and hesitation.

The characters are believable, sympathetic, and vibrant. They come from a palette of every conceivable neurotype and gender identity, and their experiences with ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, and panic attacks are so real and honest that any reader living with them will feel represented and understood.

This book is a sweet, colorful, energetic romp through an alternate world where superheroes fight internal battles with anxiety and trauma at the same time as they confront corrupt cops, flesh-eating aliens, and old allies gone bad. Watching main characters Shadow and Bean (code names Darkling and Neon Nova) share the strange experience of being teenage metahumans and build a mutually supportive friendship that blossoms into love is touching and satisfying. The characters' friendships and connections with each other feel detailed and genuine, and the little background facts and stories that surround the main plot - research bases on remote planets, Venusian psychiatrists, antimatter pigeons - make the world of the book feel rich, extending far past one's view.

If you've ever felt like your race, ability, mental health, or gender identity have cut you out of common narratives of heroism, magic, and fantasy, this is the book for you. This is a book where superheroes sometimes take anxiety meds specially matched to their metahuman genetics, or wear heavy hoods to deal with sensory overload at parties. The story approaches experiences like abusive families and PTSD with a careful, loving touch, anchoring tough themes to vibrant characters who make the plot's painful moments bearable. The perfect balance of sweet and bitter, this is a nontraditional superhero romance you won't want to put down.
