I have a very important sales meeting this afternoon. I have been in sales for nearly 5 years and I have had tremendous success without much formal training. On a couple of appointments with my national sales manager, he noticed that my style was very shiny but not polished. He had asked me to read various "how to" sales books.

Lots of great advice clearly culled from a great deal of experience working with the best. The book is clearly organized, concise and easy to carry, all of which make it worth reading through and carrying as a coaching tool. If you're shooting for successful sales, here are 365 "triggers" that will really help you set up the sales, negotiate, close and follow through. Understanding principles and strategies is great, but worth little without application. This book is an easy way to get help with both.

I can't believe there is so much useful information packed into one small, highly readable book. While it very effectively covers the entire sales process from probing to closing, the section on negotiating alone makes this book worth its weight in gold. I return to it time and again.

About the Author

Vallath has more than 26 years of IT experience including over 20 years using Oracle products. Vallath is an Oracle ACE Director and president of All India Oracle Users Group (www.aioug.org). He has worked on a variety of database platforms for small to very large implementations, designing databases for high volume, machine critical, real time OLTP systems. His expertise is with Oracle RAC. Vallath released his second book titled Oracle 10g RAC, Grid, Services and Clustering in March 2006 and has co-authored his third book titled Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) November 2007, from Oracle Press. Vallath currently provides independent consulting services in the areas of capacity planning, high availability solutions and performance tuning of Oracle environments through Summersky Enterprises (www.summersky.biz) with operations in USA and India. He has successfully completed over 100 successful small, medium and terabyte sized RAC implementations for reputed corporate firms. His recent experiences are with archiving historical data for datamarts on Exadata servers. Vallath is a regular speaker at industry conferences, including the Oracle Open World, AIOUG and others on Oracle RAC and Oracle RDBMS Performance and Tuning related topics. The Author: Itai Nartzizenfield Sneh received tenure and currently serves as Assistant Professor of History at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. He completed his doctoral studies at Columbia University, and holds a law degree and an M.A. in Eastern European Jewish history from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and a B.A. in Jewish history (with minors in international relations, biblical studies, and Yiddish language and culture) from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. His publications include articles on human rights, U.S. foreign policy, international history, genocide, terrorism, Jimmy Carter, and U.S. participation in the Vietnam War.

About the Author

Cameron Hughes is a computer and robot programmer. He holds a post as a Software Epistemologist at Ctest Laboratories where he is currently working on A.I.M. (Alternative Intelligence for Machines) and A.I.R. (Alternative Intelligence for Robots) technologies. Cameron is the lead AI Engineer for the Knowledge Group at Advanced Software Construction Inc., a builder of intelligent robot controllers and software-based knowledge components. He holds a staff appointment as a Programmer/Analyst at Youngstown State University. Tracey Hughes is a senior software and graphics programmer at Ctest Laboratories and Advanced Software Construction Inc. where she develops user interfaces and information and epistemic visualization software systems. Her work includes methods of graphically showing what robots and computers are thinking. She is on the design and implementation teams for the East-Sidaz robots at Ctest as well.

Both Cameron and Tracey Hughes are members of the advisory board for the NREF (National Robotics Education Foundation) and members of the Oak Hill Collaborative Robotics Maker Space. They are project leaders of the technical team for the NEOACM CSI/CLUE Robotics Challenge and regularly organize and direct robot programming workshops for the Arduino, Mindstorms EV3, LEGO NXT, and RS Media robot platforms. Cameron and Tracey are two of the authors of Build Your Own Teams of Robots with LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT and Bluetooth, published by McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics, January 2013. They have written many books and blogs on Software Development and Artificial Intelligence. They’ve also written books on multicore, multithreaded programming, Linux rapid application development, objectoriented programming, and parallel programming in C++.

It is very nice, good introduction. Very well formated and very easy to read. Clear charts and designs, sharp printing.
There is no need to be a tech expert to read it, but some knowledge around programming and some notions of computer inner working is a plus, that will help for sure.

What you need before buying it:
- Notions of programming and algorithms.
- Notions of computers.
- Notions of electric systems (just the basics okay).

No doubt that woth the money if you like the subject. It is more for a relaxing reading around the subject.

This is the book I wished that I had in my teens, before ever setting foot in a college CompSci class - it would have provided me a lot of direction into the core concentrations required to master the knowledge domains required. This is a thorough, accurate, and realistic depiction of the state-of-the art in the field, touching a huge number of topics. Very few books are as practical and hands-on as this one, it is a real standout. I am faculty at the University level, I have read more than a few. This book would be very appropriate for most gifted or extremely self-motivated high school students, competitive robotics teams, hackathon hackers, and serious undergraduate college students. Highest recommendation.

This is the standard text in geodesy, and it is exclusively used at Ohio State University. It is very thorough and it is written at the 4th year level. It is also the book you want for Helmut Moritz's complete improvement of his 1967 book, entiled "PhysicalGeodesy" without any deletions and all new improvements. It does in fact come in "hard back and this is the only way to purchase it for lifetime reference!" It is the only one written in English that not only derives the formulas; but covers all existing topics in this field.

This book is fantastic! It present a clear description of the aspects of Physical Geodesy and derives most things that people just throw out magically in other textbooks. This book is a must-have for those interested in the various aspects of Physical Geodesy and is a great reference book for professionals in the industry.

The reader should be forewarned that a good understanding of the Legendre and Associated Legendre equations, and their respective solutions, is needed to understand some of the derivations in the first chapter and give a good foundation for the rest of the book. This material is slightly reviewed, but it will be beneficial to already have some familiarity with Legendre Functions and the Associated Legendre Functions.

About the Author

Everett B. Woodruff was a Project Engineer at A. M. Kinney, Inc., a leading architectural, engineering, and design process firm. He was involved in the design of industrial and utility power plants and provided consultation in steam plant operation and maintenance; in plant performance test requirements; and in the development of overall power plant specifications.

Herbert B. Lammers was a consultant for various industries which were dependent upon steam power plants for their reliable source of power. He provided expertise in the efficient combustion of various fuels and in the economic operation and maintenance of boilers and various power plant systems.

Thomas F. Lammers was a Senior Project Manager with Babcock & Wilcox Co., one of the world’s leading designers and suppliers of steam generating systems and related power plant equipment. During his 36 years with the company, Mr. Lammers had various management responsibilities in the areas of engineering, marketing, and project management. �He is the author of the Fifth through the Tenth Edition of Steam Plant Operation.

About the Author
Mark A. Jones, son of the legendary Grandpa Jones, grew up in the heart of country music, Nashville, Tennessee. There he learned to play clawhammer style banjo from some of the finest. They included not only his father, Grandpa Jones, but other great talents such as: Bashful Brother Oswald, Stringbean, and Merle Travis. Mark began teaching banjo in 1978, passing along the traditinal style to others and continues to do so today. He currently resides in the foothills of the beautiful Ozark Mountains, Mountain View, Arkansas.

This is promoted as an instruction guide to Grandpa Jones's banjo playing style - there is 1 page devoted to very limited tabliture - the rest is a few songs showing chords. It is the worst instruction guide I have encountered!

Consider the source and setting!

I'm slightly disappointed that the other reviewer took such a negative view of this book. If someone is looking for a one-volume set of lessons that will turn a novice into an expert banjo player, this of course isn't it. Jones doesn't go into much technical detail, and the book is very brief. (If someone is looking for something more advanced, Jones himself actually mentions Pete Seeger's "How to Play the Five-String Banjo" in the introduction to this book.)

Rather, this book is a brief introduction to Grandpa Jones's style of banjo playing (called "frailing" or "drop-thumb"), written at a time when there were few or no such books about that style. (Jones learned frailing by hand from an older player, called Cousin Emmy; he'd been asked many times since if he could recommend a book that taught this style. Not knowing of any, Jones finally decided to write one of his own. That book, published in 1954, became the basis of this one.)

Jones chose familiar old songs as examples; ones that most interested people would already know, and were in the public domain. This would keep the price of the book down, and avoid publishing hassles. Lead sheets to the songs (instead of simply the lyrics and chord names, as they appear) would be more helpful, but Jones likely figured his readers probably couldn't read sheet music, and trying to teach them with this short volume wouldn't be worthwhile. Instead he gave them a starting point, to play their own old-style music.

As a banjo manual per se, the book may dissatisfy, but as a Grandpa Jones keepsake or a source of insight into his approach to banjo music, the book suits well enough.

I ordered the book thinking that if Grandpa Jones had input to it that it would be useful for me in learning his clawhammer style of play. I found it to be pretty much worthless. I play the Scruggs three-finger style, and have a feel for what clawhammer instruction ought to offer.
