Although Rod Serling, who created the classic television series that ran from 1959 to 1965, is the writer most associated with The Twilight Zone, he was not, of course, the only one. Serling was a serious admirer of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, and he scoured every magazine and collection available to find stories suitable for his series. This anthology showcases almost every original story that had been adapted into an episode. The result is a masterful collection of 30 classic tales by Richard Matheson (who also wrote the warmly nostalgic introduction), Charles Beaumont, Ray Bradbury, Damon Knight, Lewis Padgett, Jerome Bixby, and Manly Wade Wellman, among others. Fans of The Twilight Zone will enjoy revisiting their favorite episodes in literary form, but even if you've never seen the show, you'll enjoy this fine anthology. --Stanley Wiater

Makes great reading companion to Twilight Zone episodes box set

If you love the old Twilight Zone series and wonder what the source material was for a lot of the episodes, this book of short stories is for you. In it are included thirty stories (most ranging between 10-40 pages) by Richard Matheson (8 stories), Charles Beaumont (8 stories), including a story from each Lewis Padgett (Henry Kuttner), Ray Bradbury, Jerome Bixby, and Manly Wade Wellman among others.
At the beginning of each story is listed the season, episode and title of the Twilight Zone show counterpart to the short story.

The Stories that Rod Serling Adapted into Teleplays for his TV Show.

NOTE: This is NOT a script, nor is it the actual Twilight Zone TV Series SHOWS. These are the Origenal short stories written by their respective authors that were later turned into Twilight Zone episodes.
Anyone who's a fan of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone will enjoy reading the ORIGINAL stories behind the re-written teleplays.
This book contains 30 stories, 550 pages, of some of the most popular episodes of the Twilight Zone.
However, I will warn you that stories do differ from the TV shows you watched as these are the stories that were ADAPTED into TELEPLAYS for TV and things changed. It's interesting for me, as a fan and industry professional to see what changes, what stayed the same, what was better, was should have stayed the same.
Go into this book with the knowledge these are the stories that Rod read and decided to ADAPT into his TV show, understanding they will differ in many areas and you will enjoy them all over again.

The Twilight Zone: The genius of Rod Serling and his writers

For this reader, The Twilight Zone the Original Stories is a classic that has had a special place on my bookshelf for years. It's familiar black dust jacket became too tattered to keep years ago because of the use that it had, and I ended up loaning it to a good friend about four years ago. With my permission, the friend loaned it to one of his children, and it has been circulating back and forth between members of his family since then.
This book was skillfully edited by Martin Harry Greenberg, Richard Matheson and Charles G. Waugh in the '80s, and between the covers you'll find thirty of the stories that intrigued the late Rod Serling when he was writing for his TV show, which ran from 1959 to 1964. Besides Rod Serling, writers for The Twilight Zone included such leading authors as Ray Bradbury, Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, Reginald Rose, Earl Hamner, Jr., George Clayton Johnson, and Jerry Sohl. There were also episodes in his series that featured adaptations of classic stories by such writers as Ambrose Bierce, Damon Knight, Jerome Bixby, and Lewis Padgett. And yes, you'll find some of these in between the covers.
Someday I'll get my copy of The Twilight Zone back, but it's good to know that it's being shared by a whole new generation. If you were ever a fan of the original TV series, then grab a copy of this wherever you find it. You won't be disappointed.
