Five star read for the season

I have read better translations and a lot worst
However I highly recommend this book
for not only is this particular translation for the young but particularity for the young at heart
The translator has honored the people of the ore mountains , the nutcracker manufactures such as Steinbach, Ulrich, Kraus and all folk artist who has ever carved one of these lovely creatures.
The interpretation in the phrasing is so vivid that you can hear Tchaikovsky dance of the sugar plum fairy and waltz of the flowers when the main characters Maria and the nutcracker enter his kingdom
Salute to Hoffman in bringing the nutcracker to life inspiring Tchaikovsky and folk artist throughout the world from Germany Austria Russia and the United States yes even China
But a special salute to this translator for bringing this particular rendition to the English speaking world
A good read for years to come and to remember to crack the hard nuts in life

the Kindle version is a mess!

The story surprised and intrigued me by its diversion from the ballet story! Or I should say, the ballet story was drastically altered from the original by E.T.A. Hoffmann. But the Kindle version is full of "typos" and formatting errors that interfere with smooth reading.

To be honest, I read the Maurice Sendak illustrated version instead, but this story is such a lovely fairy tale. I appreciate it more than the ballet.
